Websites and WordPress

WordPress.org is the ideal platform for small businesses and solo entrepreneurs to utilize to establish their brand presence.  WordPress.org is a content management system that allows users to build their own website for free. WordPress has a well-organized file and directory structure that separates its core functions from its user-added content, which allows both novices and experienced web designers to create stunning content. WordPress has numerous themes and plug-ins to choose from and is organized to suit specific business needs. In addition to its open source platform, WordPress, has an easy-to-use interface and is simple to set up. As long as you have a basic understanding of computers and some coding familiarity, WordPress is a great choice.

In 2023, there were over 800 million websites using WordPress, and the numbers are steadily growing. It is believed that over 500 new sites are created daily using the free version of WordPress.org.  WordPress has been around since 2003 and has steadily gained in usage and popularity. WordPress makes it easy to import your content from other platforms and has price points to fit every budget. As long as you have an active WordPress account, you can switch to a different plan at any time. Due to its flexibility and scalability, WordPress powers many of the web’s largest websites, businesses, and government agencies, including the TED Blog and Time Magazine.

I think WordPress is perfect for small businesses. Physicians who are involved in private practice or who are part of small groups are ideal candidates for WordPress. Also, many of the vendors who operate mobile food trucks would benefit from all of the functionality and scalability that WordPress offers. I found several sites that I felt would benefit from WordPress designs, as their themes were already tailored for their business and service offerings. Moreover, WordPress has a multitude of resources and support, as well as free tutorials and “how-tos”  to assist users in building their sites. Their support team, whom they refer to as Happiness Engineers” are ready to provide support for whatever your need might be.

Three websites that I felt would benefit from WordPress were:

  1. “THE BIG UGLY WEBSITE” –https://thebiguglywebsite.com/ -Clearly, as their name implies, any assistance would be welcome.
  1. PENNYJUICE – https://www.pennyjuice.com/ a juice supplier which supplies juices to childcare centers throughout the United States;
  1. Bath Magic – https://www.uglytub.com/- a bathtub and tile refinishing business

In addition to lacking overall appeal, what each of these websites had in common was a lack of freshness or modernity. Each site appeared to be dated in its typography, layout, and color scheme. In addition to outdated content, the design aesthetic is lacking. With all of the theme selections and plug-in resources offered by WordPress, I believe each of these sites could look refreshed and updated, which would undoubtedly improve business and web traffic to their respective sites.
