I selected three websites to analyze on awwards. com.
Webflow.com
What I like about this website’s homepage is it immediately grabbed my attention. I knew exactly what services the company offered and whether the services offered were services I was interested in. It has a user-friendly navigation menu that allows me to go directly to the information I am most interested in without having to sift through pages of no immediate interest to me. For example, if pricing is my issue, I can go there and see if Webflow products and services are within my price range. If they are, I go and find out more information about the product. If not, I don’t waste time exploring the web page. I felt the color selection was excellent. The blue, white, and black color scheme was consistent with the brand colors of blue and white, and the black background allowed the text and messaging to take center stage. The customer testimonials/endorsements served two purposes. First, I could see that Webflow had provided services for many established businesses in the industry and therefore could be trusted to deliver an effective service, and two; although I was unfamiliar with their business, I could feel confident about using their service. I also appreciated the landing page information “Get started for free” in bold white type against a black background and their selection of a sans serif font which made it easy to read and captured your attention. I also felt the button text “ Get started – its free” with the blue background and white text utilized the graphic design concepts of repetition, and proximity very effectively. It was an engaging website which made me want to try their product or at the very least, tell a friend about it.
World.Zuehlke.com
I felt their home page was visually stunning and engaging. When you click on the webpage, you see a representation of Earth in the solar system. The visual of Earth spinning, while you are seemingly traveling through the solar system is breathtaking. It is almost like visiting a planetarium, but on the web. The main text reads “Sustainability is an opportunity to do business – better” as their subtext explains what the website is about and what their business has to offer. There is a menu button on the right side of the page which, when clicked, offers you the opportunity to read their webpage in either English or Dutch. Similarly, on the right side of the page, there is a simple call to action button which asks you to “Scroll to discover why & how”. As you scroll through the webpages you can see how the services they offer differ from others in their product category. You can discern their brand, their company, and its global reach. You are also able to see their client list and the companies they have partnered with to carry out their business goals. I feel it is an effective use of links, video, and animation which tells a story about the brand and its services. You don’t have to read their text in order to see their vision.
The last website was from Agustin Burgos, who I felt also effectively used video in his background to make the viewer want to see more. His homepage is simple and personable. Since he is offering his personal services, his website introduces you to him just as if you were going into his office and meeting him for the first time. You get a sense of his personality and style. The rounded corners of the button on his name compliment the simple text buttons, which you can click to find out more about his personal service offerings. I also appreciated the use of transparency with his picture, as I feel it enhanced the personal connection, yet was stylish and fit the overall ambiance of his webpage. I feel his use of whitespace and alignment helps balance his webpage and allows his typography to speak through the pages.
I like the background page selections on each of the web pages. I also like the font choices and the visual interest that each layout brings. Although the products and services offered on each website were different, each site was effective in engaging the viewer and inviting them to learn more. Each page seemed simple in design, yet was engaging in its outreach. I hope to incorporate their techniques into my web designs in the future, as I feel the websites were able to personalize my search experience and allow me, as the viewer, to see myself using their product or service.
